Planting DayWho We Are...Our Statement of Faith

Many people have not heard about “Churches of Christ”. We find it important to let people know who we are and what we believe. So this statement will tell you more about us as a church and what we teach as doctrine. We hope you will find it helpful, as you seek to know more about us. Please note that this is only an attempt to discuss some issues that many people want to know more about. It is not a complete statement. We would much rather let you ask any question and talk with us either in your home or on the phone. We are open to helping you understand who we are.

Churches of Christ
We fellowship all Christians. The “Churches of Christ” strive to be NON-Denominational. By that we mean we are all independent churches. We do what we believe God's Word asks us to do. We fellowship each other because our core beliefs are the same, but no congregation is greater than another. There are many more Churches of Christ in the South than in the North. If you are familiar with Independent Christian Churches, then you will know much about us. The largest difference between us is that in our worship we do not use musical instruments. Almost all other beliefs are the same.

Core Doctrine
So what do we believe? We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God and we do not need any other creed book in order to know more or to be saved, and that it is error free (2 Tim. 3:14-17). We believe that God is one. We believe that Jesus, although He came in human form is still God, just like the Father. We believe the Holy Spirit, an aid to us as Christians, is God, just like Jesus and the Father. We do not believe one is greater than the other, but that they are all one and help us in different ways. We believe in a virgin birth, in a physical death of Christ and a bodily resurrection. We believe Jesus is the head of the church and not any man.

We believe that children are born sin-free and are in God's family, but as we grow older we choose to sin and leave God's grace. When we recognize our own sin and want to come back to God, we believe a person must repent (change from sin to desire and strive to live according to the Bible), believe in God and His Word, confess Jesus as the Lord of their life and be baptized into Him. We believe different people have different views about Bible passages. We feel God allows that as long as the unity of the church is not hurt. Christians can and do disagree; we believe they are to talk about their differences in love. If something is a matter of sin, it should be resolved. If it is a matter of opinion, it should be left alone for each to do as they feel God wants them. We believe our worship should be Bible centered. We spend time singing, praying, and being taught from God's Word through preaching; and each week we partake of Communion (also called the Lord's Supper). When we offer Communion, it is open to all who want to partake. That is between you and God and we do not stand in judgement as to who should partake and who should not. We want to be Bible based. We are very willing to change in light of Biblical evidence.

Our Desire
It is our desire to share with you any answer to any question you may have. You may take a different view than we do on doctrine - let's talk about it. You may not fully understand some statement above - that is why these things cannot be complete, and personal discussion is needed. We desire to grow and to challenge each other. If that is what you are looking for, then we may be just the church you want to be a part of. We look forward to hearing from you. May God bless you on your spiritual journey.
